Dr. Clay Hendricks is the founder of Hendricks Family Dentistry, where he and his wife, Amy, and son, Dr. Harlan Hendricks, have focused on creating an environment of care and trust for their staff and growing family of patients.
Dr. Hendricks was raised in LaGrange, Georgia, and graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in 1971. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the Medical College of Virginia (now Virginia Commonwealth University) in 1976. Upon graduation, he was inducted into the prestigious OKU, a national dental honor society reserved for dental students who have distinguished themselves by excellence in scholarship, while demonstrating exemplary traits of character and potential qualities for future professional growth and attainment of clinical skills. Following a year of general practice residency at Long Island Jewish-Hillside Medical Center in New York, he began practicing dentistry in Virginia Beach in 1977. He is currently a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the Virginia Dental Association, and the Tidewater Dental Association.
Education, awareness of industry advancements, and meeting the changing needs of patients have been the cornerstones of his career. He has served as an Adjunct Clinical Professor at VCU School of Dentistry since 2004, and has helped many dental students by developing their clinical skills and instilling a passion for the dental profession.
As a progressive thinker and industry leader, Dr. Hendricks co-founded Atlantic Dental Care, PLC, a corporation presently made up of 70 dental practices. Along with his general dentistry practice, he has always believed in giving back to his community. Most recently, Dr. Hendricks has been instrumental in developing the volunteer-based dental program at Beach Health Clinic, where he serves on the Board of Directors. Outside of dentistry, Dr. Hendricks loves being in nature – hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains, kayaking, gardening and beekeeping.
